NERDMAN is a laugh-out-loud ride that revels in the absurdity of filmmaking, showcasing the zany world of high school cinema and the hilariously quirky journey of a young director trying to make his mark.

NERDMAN (a parody of the film Birdman) is a delightful and hilarious short film about Reece, a high school filmmaker on a mission to finish his movie for the school film festival. When his lead actor's performance proves disastrous, Reece uncovers a quirky ability to render people unconscious with a single glance. As Reece and his crew Kip and Francis, try to find a replacement for their unconscious actor, chaos ensues, turning the production into a rollercoaster of unpredictable twists.


NERDMAN is a compelling short film inspired by the Oscar winning film Birdman that mirrors the gripping intensity of its influence, both in narrative depth and groundbreaking cinematography. Shot in a mere four days, the production's ambitious vision brought the essence of continuity and seamless storytelling to life through an innovative approach - a series of extra-long, uncut takes. Drawing inspiration from Birdman's famous "one-shot" technique, NERDMAN elevates the cinematic experience by crafting a visual feast that appears to flow continuously, never cutting away from the unfolding drama.


The incredible four-day shoot became a test of the cast and crew's skill and dedication, requiring meticulous planning and coordination to flawlessly execute each extended sequence.

As part of our first ever Short Film Bootcamp, where 19 aspiring youth actors and filmmakers found themselves working hand in hand with experienced mentors who guided them through the intricacies of the filmmaking process. The camp became a melting pot of creativity and learning, where fresh perspectives intertwined with industry wisdom, culminating in a harmonious convergence of imagination and expertise.



The ambitious decision to shoot the film with a series of extended takes was both a challenge and an extraordinary learning opportunity. With unwavering support from their mentors, they embraced the technical complexities of orchestrating seamless long takes, demonstrating remarkable dedication and adaptability. The immersive nature of the production fostered a strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork among the camp participants, who united their talents and forged lasting bonds in the pursuit of their shared artistic vision.


Through this unique collaboration, NERDMAN became a testament to the power of mentorship and the transformative potential of empowering young minds.


The film not only represents a captivating and emotionally resonant cinematic experience but also stands as a beacon of inspiration for future generations of storytellers. NERDMAN will have its next public screening at the Landmark Cinemas in St. Catharines for the Mighty Niagara Film Festival.
